WEDDING WEDNESDAY: OUR STORY & THE ENGAGEMENT!

Hi babes! Long time, no blog (as per usual). It’s been over a year since my last blog post, lol oops. Some things have changed in my life since then. I got engaged in November 2020 and between planning a wedding, going to all of our friends’ weddings, and working full-time, blogging has been put on the backburner. Since Spenser proposed exactly one year ago today and we are now less than 6 months(!!!) out from our wedding, I figured that it’d be fun to post wedding updates! I can’t wait to go back and re-read these posts after we are married.

So last November, Spenser and I went to Aruba for vacation! We were supposed to go to London and Paris but due to Covid, we had to change some plans, so we decided to go back to Aruba like we did in 2019. A lot of people have asked me: “Did you know he was going to propose?” and the answer was yes! A little bit of back story, around the time we booked our trip to Europe, Spenser ~drunkenly~ told me he was going to propose in London. Me, being the kind of person I am, remembered it! And when we had to cancel our plans, I knew it would happen in Aruba because we knew we wanted a destination proposal. Plus, I kept asking him about it to drive him crazy! Here’s our story of how we met and our engagement.

How We Met – From My POV

Back in May of 2019, I moved back to Orlando, Florida. After a few weeks of dating apps, I was over it. I posted on a Central Florida Girls Facebook group asking if anyone had a single brother or friend who had a job, was taller than me, and basically wasn’t a serial killer. Kate posted some photos and a blurb about her brother Spenser and he piqued my interest, mostly because of his cute Golden Retriever!

A few weeks later, Kate and I met up one night downtown with a big group of gal pals, and we ended up going to brunch together the next day with two other gals. After drinking plenty of bottomless mimosas, we decided to go to Kate’s brother’s house. We made our way there and it was love at first sight, for Miles the Golden Retriever and me that is.

I spent the entire afternoon petting and cuddling Miles and said maybe 5 sentences to Spenser total. I even took off my fake eyelashes in front of him and somehow, that didn’t scare him.

A week or so later, Spenser invited Kate, Preeti, and me to a concert at House of Blues since his neighbors were one of the bands playing. Once again, I drank a lot, and us girls were being obnoxious, running throughout Disney Springs singing “Don’t Be Suspicious” from Parks and Rec. Throughout the night, Spenser and I had time to talk about each other’s interests and were holding hands. While Kate and Preeti were walking ahead of Spenser and me at one point, I stopped him and kissed him. The four of us ended up in one of the areas of Disney Springs where there is a DJ and dancing by the Boathouse and Spenser and I ended up dancing and having a great time!

Later that week, we also went on our first real date to Santiago Bodega’s, and here we are almost 2 1/2 years later, planning a wedding!

How He Asked – From Spenser’s POV

In early 2020, I planned a trip for Kelsey and I to go to Europe. She had never been, and England is one of my favorite places in the world. My parents had gifted me a vacation to use with their saved points from Christmas the previous year, and I wanted to use a portion of those points for our European vacation. We would go to England for 5 nights, staying in a hotel in Kensington, and then take the Chunnel to Paris for several days to explore and see Disneyland Paris. Unfortunately, the pandemic shut down Europe for travel, and we had to cancel the trip. It was a disappointment, but even more so for me, because I knew that I wanted to propose on this trip.

So onto Plan B.

My family has had a timeshare with the Marriott property in Aruba for many years. We have had many wonderful family vacations in Aruba, and I had the luck of bringing Kelsey to Aruba in the Fall of 2019. We still had the timeshare available for the year 2020, and if unused, the timeshare was wasted. Having discussed my proposal plans with my dad, he offered the Aruba timeshare as a secondary option. Aruba, being one of the islands that I do business in, has its advantages that I have people living there that can advise on the status of the border situation. Our family friend Bob was my coordinator on the island.

Leading up to our trip in November, I was constantly emailing and calling Bob when I was at the office, giving him ideas and providing pictures as inspiration for the proposal. I was going to need his help to pull it off. We were all set, and I felt good as we arrived at the airport in Aruba. Bob picked us up after a long day of traveling and was supposed to drive us to the hotel. Instead, he took us on a drive of several beaches along the West coast of Aruba; beaches that we have discussed using for my proposal. Driving by Eagle Beach, home of the nationally famous Divi Divi Tree, we spotted a beach bar that I tried to slyly mention to Bob about being a great place to go to one day that week. Message received.

The morning that I planned to propose, Kelsey and I went to the beach, sat under a palappa, read our books, had some drinks, and enjoyed the island life. I got a text from Bob saying that he was getting a ride with the photographer and would pick us up soon. We went up to the room to get ready; I had told Kelsey that we were going to take some pictures on the beach and to wear one of her Lilly Pulitzer dresses. (One that she had told me that she would want to wear whenever I eventually proposed.) Bob and the photographer picked us up in their car, with the champagne and ice sitting in the back seat with us. Surprise? Not so much.

We arrive at Eagle Beach, and Kelsey and go to the beach bar we had spotted the day before, while Bob and the photographer go to “take pictures of the Divi Divi Tree”. Before our drinks arrive, Bob texts me that everything is set up. Now, before that day, I had told him that I wanted the photographer to be out of sight. Hide in a bush, look the other way, etc. As Kelsey and I walk down the beach to the spot picked out, there are Bob and the photographer standing right next to the tree, grinning and laughing. I am no good at lying or surprises, so Kelsey knew exactly what was happening. I take her to the famous Divi Divi tree, get down on one knee, and propose to my best friend and soulmate. Although, it was more difficult than I imagined, as she cried and verbally tried to soothe herself, saying “Okay, okay, okay!” When she said Yes! I put the ring on her finger, we toasted with a bottle of champagne and proceeded to take some pictures with our failed-spy photographer. It was a beautiful day, we had beautiful weather, and I had a beautiful new fiancee.

Hey babes! Here is another round-up of my current favorite things!

1. Lilly Pulitzer Winona Dress // This is such a fun end of summer into fall dress! Most of the sizes are in stock too! I took my normal size small. It also came in green and most sizes are in stock at Nordstrom!

2. Stila Mascara // I love trying new mascara and this one is amazing! It makes my lashes look so full and long. You can also get it at Ulta!

3.  Too Faced Born This Way Matte // I usually use this foundation but I heard a lot of great things about the new Born This Way foundation! I honestly love it so far and it has held up through crying pretty well. I use this primer and setting spray combo (or this one) and this setting powder to help it stay put.

4. Target Kersha Sandals // These sandals are seriously one of my faves! I originally bought them when I was living in Houston in 2018 and I bought a new pair that I haven’t really worn again until recently. They are comfy and I get tons of compliments when I wear them! I wear a size 7.5 in them.

5.  Sorry Board Game // This is hands down one of my favorite board games! Spenser got it for me when we did a little gift exchange and we had so much fun playing it!

TOP FIVE FRIDAY | VOL. 4

Hello to all my lovely babes! Sorry, I’m still the actual worst with blogging but here is another Top Five Friday!! Enjoy and I hope to have another one for you next week 🙂

1. Lilly Pulitzer Keila Dress // This dress is absolutely beautiful! I’m obsessed with the lace detailing. This does run a size large though, so size down! It is almost sold out but don’t forget to check your local corporate or signature store!

2. Bug Bite Thing // If I’m outside anytime dusk or after, mosquitos flock to me. Spenser and I bought this and it actually kind of works! It works better for me on less sensitive areas like my arm or lower leg.

3. Lilly Pulitzer Face Masks // For those looking for a cute face mask, I love these! I have 11 of them because I have no shame in my mask game. They only come in a pack of 3 though and you can’t choose the prints. Also, the ChillyLilly masks are also available for pre-order!

4. ColourPop Pretty Fresh Hydrating Primer // Y’all, I am loving this primer! I was using this Too Faced primer before but I was tired of paying $34 for primer. I would even consider this a pretty good dupe for the Too Faced one! It does make my nose a bit oily but I just use this primer on my nose instead. It’s sold out online but check your local Ulta!

5. Leaves Candle // Since central Florida doesn’t really get fall, this candle is my go-to during the fall months! It is hands down my favorite candle ever and I buy at least 5 per year because I go through them so fast.

Hi lovely friends! I’m sorry this is a day late!! I started working at Lilly Pulitzer again this week and time completely got away from me.

1. Mini Waffle Maker // Spenser got me this for Christmas and it’s probably one of my favorite gifts. We mainly use it to make cinnamon roll waffles (which are my fave) and it’s perfect! I have the lavender color and it’s so cute.

2. Lilly Pulitzer Loro Dress //  This is hands down my favorite dress for summer! It’s light, breezy, and perfect for these hot central Florida days. It runs a tad large, so I sized down to an XS!

3. Revel Nails Dip Kit // Since quarantine was going on, I couldn’t get my nails done so I bought this dip kit to do it myself. The first time was kind of rough but my second time doing it was way easier! I honestly might keep doing it myself from here on out! The dip color I bought is called “Erica”. It’s super close to the OPI color “Bubblebath” which is my go-to nail color.

4. R&Co Sun Catcher Leave-In Conditioner // I chose this as my free sample from R&Co after receiving some gifted products and I’m really enjoying this product! It leaves my hair super soft and smells so good!

5. Target Dedra Sandals // These sandals are legit the only shoes I wear while working at Lilly. They are so comfy but yet super cute with the rose gold straps! I wear my normal size 8 in them!

Happy Friday friends!! I hope you all had a wonderful week and have a great long weekend!

1. Outer Banks // Spenser and I decided to start Outer Banks earlier this week and wow season 1 was a wild ride. We finished it the other night and we have so many questions and need a season 2 ASAP!

2. Organic Sour Cherry Spread // Spenser and I love charcuterie boards and decided to venture to Whole Foods last weekend. We tried this spread once before as a sample a few months ago but never bought it. We bought it this weekend and wow we are obsessed! We paired it with goat cheese, manchego, and fontina and it was delicious!

3. Wood Paddle Board // We picked this up from Target the other day and we use it as our charcuterie board! It’s the perfect size for all our cheeses, meats, and spreads!

4. Chloe Ting Workouts // Last Friday, I talked about how I’m loving The Sculpt Society workouts, and here are my other current favorite workouts! I do two Chloe Ting workouts along with my TSSworkouts for an extra burn. I really like them because they are usually around 10-15 minutes. She also has a website with all her free personal workout programs! When I finish my TSS 28-day challenge, I’m doing the 25 Day Hourglass Challenge!

5. Tula Sunscreen // Sunscreen is super important for skincare, especially for naturally fair-skinned girls like myself! I bought this sunscreen a week ago and I’m really enjoying it! It doesn’t leave a weird film on my skin and doesn’t feel drying or greasy like other face sunscreens do.

Top Five Friday | Vol. 1

Hello there pals and happy Friday!! I'm trying a new series here on the blog of my top five favorite items/clothes/whatever for the week.

1. Lilly Pulitzer Luxletic Ocean Trail Shorts // I've been living in these shorts all quarantine! They are super comfy and are perfect for the central Florida heat!

2. Ikea Sundlandet Wardrobe // This was a ~treat yo self~ moment and I'm obsessed with this! It's in our office and provides extra storage space for all my things. I have my current Lilly Pulitzer faves hanging on the clothing bar and it's so pretty to look at!

3. Home Chef // Spenser and I were kind of burnt out on ideas for dinner so we decided to try Home Chef and we love it! We get 3 meals a week and I love that we get to choose and customize what we want in our boxes. If you're looking to try it out, you can use this link to get $35 off your first order! I promise I'm not sponsored at all with this brand but we just really love it! Btw, the chicken breast that you get is phenomenal and our personal favorites out of all their meats!

4. The Sculpt Society // I wrote about this in my quarantine blog post and this is my new favorite workout. Megan's energy is very encouraging and I honestly have enjoyed all the workouts even though they kick my booty! Doing the 28-day challenge has been keeping me on track and I can already see a difference in my body. My favorite classes are the 30-minute sculpts and the quickies!

5. Winking Owl Wine // If you're ballin' on a budget like a lot of us are, Aldi has some really good wine that's less than $3!! The last time we went grocery shopping there, we stocked up on 15 bottles because it's so cheap yet so good! My personal favorites are the Moscato and the Pinot Grigio.

What's Keeping Me Sane During Quarantine

Well, it has been a hot minute since my last blog post but that's just the norm around here at this point. It's crazy to think that it has been almost 2 months of being home but 6-ish weeks of being unemployed. Like many other people, I was laid off from my full-time job and furloughed from my retail job. It sucked but honestly, it was a blessing in disguise. I've taken a lot of time to think of what I really want to do career-wise and it's kind of nice having a fresh slate to work with. I've also had a lot of time to just relax, which was much needed. Below I listed some of the things I've been doing to keep me sane during the last few months!

Binge-watching movies & TV // Obvi a lot of people are binge-watching shows and movies during this pandemic because it's probably the easiest thing to do. Spenser and I have watched all the Marvel movies in release order since I've never seen them all and I am now hooked. We also binged the last season of Schitt's Creek and the ending was so perfect yet I cried through most of it. Last week, I started and finished Little Fires Everywhere and omg I need more like ASAP. We also had a Harry Potter movie marathon over the course of last week!

Working Out // At home workouts were never my jam until the quarantine. Every morning, I spend about 45 minutes working out and it has honestly kept me sane. My current workout obsession is The Sculpt Society by Megan Roup. I'm on day 11 of her 28-day challenge and I can already feel the change in my body. Before I started the challenge, I was alternating between her online classes and a YouTuber called MadFit. Spenser and I are also doing the 2-week ab challenge by Chloe Ting because we've been getting too ~comfortable~ over the course of our relationship. I am also doing this leg workout because I learned that my legs are the quickest area of my body to bulk when working out.

Self-care // Since I've been home and not going to work, I decided to stop wearing makeup for the most part and putting heat on my hair (except for the occasional blow-dry) and it's honestly been much needed. I've been trying out some new skincare from The Ordinary to help with my rosacea and general redness and so far, so good! Maybe I'll write a blog post about my skincare routine once I have it finalized!

Reading // A few weeks before the pandemic hit us, I picked up this book about Ted Bundy from Target and finally got around to finishing it three weeks ago. I also got a library card and have been checking out ebooks a lot lately! This book and this book were so good and I definitely recommend to anyone who loves a suspense/thriller book. I love the feeling of getting lost in a good book and it's been very refreshing to have time to read again! Spenser and I also decided to start re-reading the Harry Potter books since we just finished our HP movie marathon.

Videogames // Animal Crossing: New Horizons is our current obsession. Enough said.

Moving, organizing, and cleaning // At the beginning of this pandemic, I moved in with Spenser!! It honestly just made sense for us at this point because my apartment lease is just about over and with us being home due to everything going on, it was easier to just say screw it, let's live together. Not going to lie, moving in with a boyfriend in the midst of pandemic has been a wild ride. It has for sure strengthened our relationship while also tested it. I've spent the last two years living by myself and I'm someone who always enjoyed being alone and that has been my biggest struggle with moving in with Spenser. But I make time to be by myself and it's nice when he goes into the office once in a while so I can have my alone time! And with moving and combining all our stuff, we have done a lot of organizing, cleaning, and donating/throwing away. You never realize how much shit you have until you move it for the third time in 3 years and then move in with someone ðŸ˜…
